Theis: “A threat against the governor … is a threat against us all”

State Rep. Lana Theis

State Sen. Lana Theis said there is “absolutely” no place for violence in American politics, “even when we hold different political beliefs.”

The Brighton Republican said that those arrested in the militia plot against Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan’s state government should be “prosecuted to the full extend of the law.”

“A threat against the governor, or any elected official, is a threat against us all,” Theis said in a statement. “I strongly condemn the actions of the group of individuals who plotted against Gov. Whitmer and our state government.

“Only terrorists and those who want to upend the Constitution resort to violence, and we will not stand for it.”

Theis said she was thankful to all the law enforcement agencies for their quick action in stopping the plot.

“I extend my prayers to the governor and her family for their continued safety,” Theis said.
