The Little Mermaid’s swimming to Howell

//

Mermaids, sea creatures, and an evil sea witch are ready to swim into the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center when Parker Middle School presents Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” Performances are set for 7 p.m. April 19-21. Additionally, there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on April 21. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Advance sale tickets can be purchased from Parker Middle School and Schafer’s House of Music. They will also be sold at the door.

“Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is the story of a young mermaid named Ariel (Kendall Derocher) who longs to be human, something her father King Triton (Geo Rosenberry) refuses to allow. Ariel falls in love with Prince Eric (Aidan Bradley). To be with Prince Eric, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula (Kati Chapman). In exchange for Ursula transforming her into a human, Ariel agrees to surrender her beautiful singing voice. In order for Ariel to become human for forever, she must get Prince Eric to kiss her within three days; otherwise, her soul will become Ursula’s forever. Other lead characters in the musical include Sebastian (Grace Fyke), Grimsby (Michael Flynn), Flounder (Selah Luethy) and Scuttle (Annika Seruga).

“We are so proud and excited to present Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid.’ These students have been working very hard since January to bring to our community the best quality show,” said Kelli Falls, the director of the show. “You really won’t believe that they are only middle school-aged kids’ on stage, it is our best show to date!! While watching the show, audience members will get to see the kids flying around onstage to give the appearance of swimming in the sea, flying on land and digital backdrops which all have moving images. The talent level of our cast is phenomenal!”

On Friday, April 20, the cast and crew will host a Red Carpet Gala. Gala guests will walk to their designated seats by way of our red carpet and have their own space for special refreshments during intermission. Additionally, they will get to go onstage following the performance for a meet and greet with cast members, to see set pieces up close and learn how the actors were flown to make it look like they were swimming.  Lastly, Red Carpet participants will meet at 2 Fogs in downtown Howell for many delicious hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are limited and can be reserved by contacting Lindsay Derocher at derochel@howellschools.com. Tickets for this exciting event are $50.

The Rod Bushey Performing Art Center is located at 1200 W. Grand River Ave, on the north side of Howell High School. For more information about the musical, please visit https://parkermsmusical.wordpress.com.
