Taco Bell franchise tops list of Livingston County PPP loan recipients

The largest Payroll Protection Plan loan recipient in Livingston County is Sundance Inc., a franchise of Taco Bell headquartered in Brighton, which has over 180 stores located throughout Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Canada. While the primary brand of the company is Taco Bell, the company also owns stores that offer KFC, Pizza Hut, and A&W.

Sundance Inc. received a loan somewhere in the $5 million to $10 million range. The number of jobs saved was not listed in the data. The privately owned company lists on LinkedIn its number of employees as between 1,001 and 5,000.

Two nonprofit organizations made the Top 12 for Livingston County: Work Skills Corp., which received between $2 million and $5 million, saving 492 jobs; and 242 Church, which received between $1 million and $2 million, saving 81 jobs.

Two car dealerships made the Top 12 as well, with loans of between $1 million and $2 million: Bob Maxey Ford of Howell, which saved 81 jobs; and Brighton Ford, which saved 125 jobs.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the Treasury Department, released detailed loan-level data on July 6, 2020, on the loans made under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The disclosure covers each of the 4.9 million PPP loans that have been made.

The release includes loan-level data, including business names, jobs supported, and loan amount ranges as follows:
• $5 million to $10 million
• $2 million to $5 million
• $1 million to 2 million
• $350,000 to $1 million
• $150,000 to $350,000

These categories account for nearly 75 percent of the loan dollars approved. For all loans below $150,000, SBA released all of the above information except for business names and addresses; those loans are not included in this table.
