Studio West showcasing works by artists with disabilities

Studio West, a Work Skills Corp. venture, is gearing up to showcase over 100 pieces of work created by artists with disabilities. The “THISability” exhibit will feature artwork by individuals across southeast Michigan.

“This is the first local gallery show of its kind,” said Lauren Donahue, Studio West supervisor. “Typically we don’t separate artists based on their ability. These entries are so unique and stunning that we wanted to share them with the community.

THISability runs Oct. 3-31, featuring paintings, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts and more. All items are for sale, and all proceeds go directly to the artists.

Studio West is located at 111 S. West St. in downtown Brighton. It is open Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m., and noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

For over 40 years, Work Skills Corp. has helped people with disabilities and other barriers find jobs. Artisan Corner, the Work Skills art program, allows participants to reap the therapeutic benefits of creating art and take pride in displaying and selling their finished pieces at Studio West.
