Sam Bagenstos, a lawyer who fought for women’s rights on the job, Americans with disabilities, and victims of the Flint water crisis, is set to speak at the Livingston County Democrats’ spring convention on March 22 at the Re/MAX Platinum auditorium, 6870 Grand River Ave. in Brighton.

Bagenstos, who served in the U.S. Department of Justice under President Barack Obama, is seeking the endorsement of the Michigan Democratic Party to run for the Michigan Supreme Court in November . The party will endorse nominees for statewide office at an April 15 endorsement convention, and this is a chance for local Democrats to learn about Bagenstos prior to that.

Besides hearing from Bagenstos, the county party’s convention will select delegates to serve on committees for the April 15 convention, as well as consider resolutions to send to the statewide resolutions committee.

Registration for the convention begins at 6:30 p.m. Party membership must be current as of Feb. 20 in order to vote at the convention.

The official call to convention is available here.
