U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, has endorsed Adam Smiddy, D-Howell, in the race for Michigan’s 47th state House district seat.

Smiddy said Slotkin’s endorsement is particularly important to him because of their shared history.

“In 2007, Elissa and I were both in Baghdad. I was a Green Beret conducting missions throughout the city, and Elissa was a CIA analyst helping pursue terrorists,” Smiddy said. “My Special Forces command was very near the compound Elissa called home, but we never met.”

Smiddy said that area was bombed nearly every day. “I vividly remember the rockets that flew over my position toward Elissa’s location,” he said.

“We volunteered after 9/11 because our country called, and we fought the same battles because we believe in America,” Smiddy said. “Thirteen years later, we are both fighting for America. We are fighting for the same reasons. We are fighting for the future.”

Smiddy is facing off against Republican Livingston County Commissioner and former sheriff Bob Bezotte for the seat currently held by state Rep. Hank Vaupel, R-Fowlerville, who is term limited.
