Sheriff Murphy pulls out a photo-finish win in charity race

Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy, in a late-’80s Ford Ranger, beat out three other mid-Michigan sheriffs in a race at the Corrigan Oil Speedway in Mason on Aug. 9, 2019. Each losing sheriff — in this case, Scott Wriggelsworth of Ingham County, Larry Jerue of Clinton County, and Tom Reich of Eaton County — pitched in $100 to the charity of the winner’s choosing.

Murphy chose Midcourse Corrections, which serves at-risk youth in training events that include ropes courses, marching, teamwork activities and work projects.

It appears this race may become an annual event.
