Joe Riker, Republican candidate for the 42nd district state house seat, is withdrawing from the primary race.

The 42nd district encompasses the City of Brighton, the Village of Pinckney, as well as the townships of Brighton, Genoa, Green Oak, Hamburg, and Putnam.

“It is time to put my candidacy aside and do what is best for Livingston County,” Riker said in a release. “I want to ensure that come November a conservative voice continues to represent the 42nd district, and having a difficult primary will hurt those chances. We need to focus our efforts where they need to be, in the general election.”

Riker is endorsing his opponent, Brighton Township Clerk Ann Bollin.

“I know Ann will work hard for the residents of Livingston County, and she will continue to uphold the local traditional values that families, like mine, moved to Livingston County for.”

Bollin will now face Democrat Mona Shand in November’s general election.
