Republican candidate blames bankruptcy on ‘Obama economy’

Mike Detmer

Mike Detmer of Howell, a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 8th Congressional District, filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy with the U.S. State Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Dec. 28, 2016, according to records obtained by The Livingston Post.

Detmer did not respond to requests by The Livingston Post for comment; however, he told WHMI News that the “Obama economy” was to blame. You can click here for the WHMI story.

Chapter 13 is a reorganization of debt under which the debtor makes payments to creditors for a period of typically three to five years.

Candidates in the Republican primary include Detmer; Alan Hoover, an Iraq veteran and entrepreneur from Ortonville in Oakland County; Paul Junge of Brighton, a former prosecutor and TV news anchor; and Kristina Lyke of Fowlerville, an attorney at Lyke Law in East Lansing.

The 8th Congressional District includes Livingston, Ingham and northern Oakland counties.
