Potential COVID-19 exposures traced to Brighton church

The Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) is alerting the public about a potential COVID-19 exposure at the Brighton Church of Christ, 6026 Rickett Road, Brighton.

As of Oct. 30, 2020, six individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 reported attending Brighton Church of Christ during services on Oct. 18 and during bible study on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21.

Individuals who attended Brighton Church of Christ services or bible study on these days are at an increased risk for developing COVID-19. Individuals who participated in church related events or social activities are also at risk. Due to the high rate of transmission and an increase in COVID-19 cases among attendees of Brighton Church of Christ, LCHD highly recommends COVID-19 testing for all individuals who attend the church, whether they have symptoms or not. Testing locations can be found at www.lchd.org or www.mi.gov/coronavirustest. A commercial cleaning services company has already been to the church to perform Electrostatic Cleaning.

Brighton Church of Christ attendees are also encouraged to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19, including:

• Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit

• Cough

• Shortness of breath

• Difficulty breathing

• Fatigue

• Muscle or body aches

• Headache

• New loss of taste or smell

• Sore throat

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhea

In addition to getting tested, LCHD recommends that individuals who develop symptoms immediately isolate and contact their primary care physician for guidance.

COVID-19 is still spreading in our community. LCHD continues to urge residents to take precautions to protect themselves and prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
