According to multiple news reports, police are investigating a possible murder-suicide in the City of Brighton involving a mother and her daughter.

Brighton police received a call from a man requesting a welfare check of his ex-girlfriend and their 5-year-old daughter after she did not show up for a custody exchange. Officers arrived at the woman’s residence in the 700 block of North Second Street at about noon Monday, June 3, 2019, according to WHMI.com, but were unable to make contact despite her car being in the driveway. After making entry with the assistance of the landlord, police found the woman and her daughter deceased.

A source told WDIV Click on Detroit that police believe they may have been dead for a few days.

Reporting by WXYZ.com said the child was found dead with no trauma to her body, and the mother was found dead with a gunshot wound, but police have not yet confirmed those details.

Police continue to investigate.
