One more COVID-19 death reported, number of confirmed cases up 6 percent in Livingston County since May 20

The last time The Livingston Post reported a Livingston County death from COVID was 18 days ago, on May 20, 2020. Since then, there has been another death, bringing the total number of county residents who’ve succumbed to the virus to 27.

The number of probable COVID-19 cases in Livingston County has risen 23 percent, from 104 on May 20 to 128 on June 6.

According to the LCHD, the number of probable cases is defined as Livingston County residents who have been directly linked or in close contact to a confirmed case and have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, but were not tested. This number includes probable cases who are actively ill, hospitalized, deceased, and recovered.

We did the math on the other statistics reported by the Livingston County Health Department:

• The number of confirmed cases has risen 6 percent, up to 408 on June 6 from 385 on May 20.

• The number of county residents who’ve recovered from COVID-19 has gone up 20 percent, from 337 reported on May 20 to 406 on June 6.

• The number of cases in Michigan has risen nearly 12 percent, up from 52,350 to 58,525, and the total number of cases in Livingston County has risen nearly 10 percent, from 489 to 536.

According to the LCDH, symptoms of COVID-19 may appear 2-14 days after exposure and can include: cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fever; chills; muscle pain; sore throat; a new loss of taste or smell. Other less-common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

If you are experiencing respiratory illness or other concerning symptoms, the LCDH recommends contacting your healthcare provider.

If you experience emergency warning signs for COVID-19, the LCHD advises you get medication attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include difficulty breathing; persistent pain or pressure in the chest; new confusion or inability to arouse; bluish lips or face.
