On her special day, take your mom to see the mother of all Hitchcock films

The Historic Howell Theater is running a special for Mother’s Day: Bring your mom to the screening of the classic psychological thriller “Psycho” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, and she gets in for free.

Rated PG, this film is considered one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best. It received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Janet Leigh, and Best Director for Hitchcock. It was also chosen by the U.S. Library of Congress in 1992 for preservation in the National Film Registry.

In the film, a secretary, Marion Crane (played by Leigh), takes refuge at the Bates Motel after stealing $40,000 from her employer to run away with her boyfriend. There she meets the motel’s owner, the creepily disturbed Norman Bates (played by Anthony Perkins), who has a complicated relationship with his mom.

The film is directed and produced by Hitchcock, and stars Leigh and Perkins, as well as John Gavin, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam.

Tickets are $8 for general admission; $7 for students, seniors and active military; $6 for matinees, and $5 for children 3-12.
