Motorcyclist dead, passenger hospitalized in crash by Tomato Bros. in Howell

One man is dead and a Howell woman is hospitalized after a crash at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday on Grand River Avenue by Tomato Bros. Restaurant, 3030 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a Chevrolet Traverse traveling east on West Grand River Avenue failed to yield while turning into the Tomato Brothers restaurant. The Chevrolet Traverse was struck by a 1993 Harley Davison that was traveling west on West Grand River Avenue.

The Harley Davidson was driven by a 33-year-old Adrian man with a 69-year-old Howell woman as a passenger. The Chevrolet Traverse was driven by a 46-year-old Howell woman.

The man and woman on the Harley Davidson were transported to Sparrow Hospital by Livingston County EMS with life-threatening injuries. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. Both of them were wearing their helmets at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS, Howell Area Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police.
