Every day, people face challenges that leave them feeling helpless and overwhelmed, resulting in damaged health and broken relationships.

“People are burdened with the cares of their finances, or the cares of their families, or the cares of their health,” said Rachael Pico of Life Abundant Ministries. “But we’ve been instructed to cast our cares at the feet of Jesus.”

Life Abundant Ministries will offer practical strategies to combat worry, fear, and doubt, as part of Carefree: The 2018 Family Faith Conference. The event, set for Saturday, June 9, at the Lansing Center, features authors and speakers Rachael and Bryce L. Pico.

Rachael Pico (née Fraser), a Fowlerville native, did not foresee a career in ministry, much less serving as president of a nonprofit organization. But things took a drastic turn after her best friend took her own life.

“I made the decision that I would not let this just be another thing that happened in my life,” Rachael Pico said. “It wouldn’t be just another dot on my timeline.”

According to Pico, many people have a fundamental misunderstanding about who is behind the chaos and loss in their lives. In those cases, it’s often God who gets blamed for depression, disaster, sickness, and death.

“‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy,’” said Pico, quoting John 10:10. “Let’s be clear, here, we are talking about the enemy of God, the enemy of His people, and our enemy – the devil.”

Through live teaching, books, and media resources, the Webberville-based ministry works to reveal God’s loving kindness at work in today’s world. Their purpose is to educate people about the abundant life offered by Jesus Christ.

“We are a ministry geared toward teaching, equipping, and empowering the members of the Body of Christ so that they may live life to the fullest,” said Rachael. “We want people to know who God is, who they are, and what their relationship is with Him.”

Admission to the event is free (childcare is not provided). Sessions begin at 10 a.m. The Lansing Center is at 333 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. To register, or for more information, visit Life Abundant Ministries’ website, www.life-abundant.org.
