MurphyLivingston County Undersheriff Mike Murphy is running for sheriff.

Murphy’s announcement — which comes on the heels of Sheriff Bob Bezotte’s announcement that he will not seek re-election — will not be a surprise to anyone who pays attention to Livingston County politics.

Murphy, the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2014, is active in the community. He’s served as chairperson of the LACASA Board of Directors, and has been involved in many other organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Connection Youth Services, Livingston Sunrise Rotary, OLHSA, Work Skills, Chilson Hills Church, Pink Party, Women Supporting Women Vets, Gleaners, ARC, and Genesis House.

“Since the first day I walked through the door of the sheriff’s office as a young corrections deputy over 25 years ago, I have felt the responsibility to serve with integrity and give back to the community that overwhelmingly supports law enforcement,” Murphy said in a press release. “I feel I have achieved both and I am ready for the next chapter in my public servant career.”
