Pilot Scott Lorenz finishes filling a balloon.

The skies above Livingston County will be filled this weekend with colorful hot-air balloons this weekend as pilots compete in the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest, the state championship of hot-air ballooning. And the community will be filled with more than 100,000 spectators to watch the balloon launch en masse (weather permitting) from the Howell High School complex.

Hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, the balloonfest isn’t the only attraction. The popular event also features sky divers, live entertainment, stunt kite demonstrations, balloon glow, fireworks, a family fun tent, a kids area, arts festival, dog shows and a carnival. There will also be special attractions, entertainment and sales in downtown Howell.
