Local veterans organization’s donation to Fisher House doubles with Memorial Day match

The membership of the Sons of the American Legion Post 141 unanimously supported a $5,000 donation to Fisher House of Michigan. The Ann Arbor location will be breaking ground this year on a 16-suite house located adjacent to the VA Hospital.

Fisher House Foundation is best known for its network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.

These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, and are always close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee.

“This donation could not have come at a more opportune time,” said Matt Palmucci, of the Fisher House Michigan Foundation. “Our 2018 Memorial Day Match runs May 1 through June 30, and all donations during that time will be matched by the American Legion Post 46 of Ann Arbor, up to $100,000.”

The Sons of the American Legion Post 141 is an auxiliary unit that provides support for veterans and the local community. It hosts many fundraising events, includng Christmas tree sales, pizza nights, and the annual Wild Game Dinner.

The Sons wish to thank all those who support their fundraising efforts so they can continue their work. To learn more about the Sons of the American Legion and membership, click here.
