Livingston ranks No. 9 in state for opioid deaths; events set to raise awareness, promote recovery

In 2019, Livingston’s 34 opioid overdose deaths landed it at No. 9 of Michigan’s 83 counties. According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, in 2020 there were 31 opioid overdose deaths, and in 2021 that number increased to 41, with 13 of those deaths suspected to be heroin-related.

To bring attention to the problem, the Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Prevention work group of the Human Services Collaborative Body is holding Overdose Awareness Day events on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at two locations in the community:

• 6-9 p.m. at the Brighton Mill Pondclick here for info.

There are also a number of Recovery Month events throughout September:

• 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, BBQ/Alkathon at the Alano Club.

• 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, Lethal Means Safety virtual training. RSVP required.

• 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, Celebrate Recovery/Story Tour at Brighton Church of the Nazarene. For more information, click here.
