LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We have reasons to be thankful

Sharing is caring!

It appears the impact of the coronavirus may become greater in coming days, perhaps much greater. Nevertheless, we have several reasons to thank God and to be encouraged.

First, I’m over 65 and grateful for the concerns expressed by my family and others. We should all be grateful for those who care, whether they are relatives or not.

Second, we now seem to be placing reliance on science, not on rhetoric. This is good. Perhaps it will continue.

Third, the politicians are working together. We can be gratified by the quick efforts of our Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, and Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, along with most other members of Congress of both parties to pass medical response funding in an amount more than three times that initially requested by the Trump Administration, and to now reach an agreement that will assist those affected economically.

Fourth, long before the federal government took matters seriously, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer acted quickly and effectively to open the state’s emergency operations center, and has asserted needed leadership in responding to the threat.

  1. Tim Schnelle, I agree with you on your first two points. On your third I think we all can be thankful for the Trump administration and its quick response to the Coronavirus danger. Just its quickly stopping Chinese travel into the USA no doubt saved America a larger impact on our citizens. Thank You President Trump!
On your fourth point, the speed Governor Whittmer opening the States Emergency Operation Center, President Trump stopped Chinese immigration on January 31,2020 when the danger was first noted. He was called a racist for doing it so soon. Govenor Whitmer opened the emergency operation center of February 28, 2020. The dates speak for themselves.

What do you think?
