Charles Dickens words, “It was the worst of times; it was the best of times,” seem to be particularly appropriate to our current situation. There are some people who take the opportunity to scam vulnerable people with fake Covid-19 test kits, and others who hoard supplies that everyone needs and try to sell these items at exorbitant prices.
However, there are so many people of various ages from all around the world who demonstrate the caring and generous side of humanity in a crisis. These individuals reach out to people in need and find creative ways to help. They are people from all walks of life who don’t expect anything in return. Then there are the first responders who always run toward danger, and the doctors, nurses, and medical workers who show up every day to face this invisible enemy threatening their own health. The food and drug industry workers make sure that products are available for all of us.
This is a terrifying and uncertain time but it is also a time of great hope because people are realizing what’s really important in life: the lives and well-being of family, friends and mankind. The world is becoming kinder and we are noticing.
