LETTER: Support the Global Sumud Flotilla’s mission to Gaza

As we watch the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, it is easy to feel helpless. However, a courageous, nonviolent, civilian-led effort is currently underway that demands our attention and support. In Spring 2026, the Global Sumud Flotilla is sailing to break the illegal 19-year blockade of Gaza and deliver desperately needed humanitarian aid.

This mission represents a collective humanitarian effort involving international participants, including medical professionals and human rights advocates, who seek to provide aid and draw attention to the needs of the civilian population. The term “sumud” translates to “steadfastness,” highlighting a commitment to resilience and human rights. Supporting this initiative is a way to advocate for the delivery of food and medical supplies to those in need.

This effort is based on the principle of nonviolent civilian action and the belief in the necessity of safe passage for humanitarian relief. By participating in this dialogue, the community can engage in a broader conversation about international cooperation and the protection of civilian life.

Residents of Livingston County can consider standing in solidarity with such peaceful efforts. Support can include raising awareness about the humanitarian situation, engaging with local representatives regarding the importance of safe aid delivery, and fostering community discussions on human dignity and international law.
