LACASA teens launch ‘Your Voice’ awareness campaign

LACASA Center’s Teen Advisory Council launches its eighth annual teen awareness campaign in high schools throughout Livingston County during March.

This year’s campaign, Your Voice is Vital, is designed to empower teens to use their voice to start a conversation about sexual assault and as a result, change the world around them.

“The campaign is about standing up, speaking out and supporting survivors,” said LACASA’s Youth Prevention Services Coordinator Kayla Grant. “We want teens to talk about the misconceptions surrounding sexual assault and to become advocates for victims and survivors.”

During the high school workshops, teens participate in special activities and receive awareness literature, fliers, resource cards, and lip balm with the message “Your Voice Is Vital, Change the World.”

The graphic design for this year’s campaign was created by Howell High School student Christina Tartaglia.

“This is the first year that the Teen Advisory Council held a graphic design competition for students,” Grant said. “The council members wanted to empower students to get involved and contribute their unique talents as advocates for change. We were impressed by the many creative entries.”

Teen council members crafted the campaign messaging, which encourages students to listen, believe, support, and speak out for victims and survivors, said Grant.

LACASA’s Community Education Department and Teen Advisory Council conduct the awareness campaign at every high school in the county. Participating schools include: Brighton High School, Flex Tech High School, Fowlerville High School, Hartland High School, Howell High School, Howell Freshman Campus, Kensington Woods High School, LEGACY, Pinckney High School, and alternative schools.

A variety of student groups at each high school will assist with the campaign as volunteer ambassadors. “It’s always exciting to see students get involved and help raise awareness among their friends and classmates,” said Grant.
