Judge appointed by Obama gives Detmer a huge boost to make the ballot now

Oh, irony of ironies.

A federal judge appointed by President Barack Obama might have just secured a place on the ballot for Howell 8th Congressional District congressional candidate Mike Detmer.

Detmer, who bills himself as the most far-right of the Republican candidates for the seat, has been under huge fire since last week for posing for a selfie before the “Operation Gridlock” rally in Lansing. The people in the selfie were violating all social-distancing guidelines, and a guy in the back is supporter of the “Proud Boys,” a group that’s been labeled as a hate group, but which Detmer now embraces.

Detmer had not yet turned in the 1,000 signatures he needs to make the ballot, but he has indicated he’ll be doing that today. The deadline had been tomorrow. But an early-morning ruling by U.S. District Judge Terrence Berg says that Detmer and other congressional candidates now have until May 8 to turn in their signatures, and instead of needing 1,000, they only need 500. Berg also ruled that Detmer and the others can now start collecting petitions online.

Even though Detmer says he has 1,000 signatures, it’s a good bet that many of them will be challenged and he might have fallen below the 1,000 mark. Thanks to Judge Berg, though, he should be fine now.

And Berg, who might have just saved Detmer’s campaign, was appointed by Obama.

  1. Why are most journalists far left anti-Constitutionalists? One come to mind is Buddy Moorehouse…sloppy journalism siting Southern Poverty Law Center as a source of objectively. That group is severely anti- Christian of the first kind.
