In letter to SOS, Theis and fellow state senator ask for audit of election results

State Sens. Lana Theis (R-Brighton) and Tom Bennett (R-Charlotte)

State Sens. Lana Theis (R-Brighton) and Tom Barrett (R-Charlotte) on Thursday delivered a letter to Secretary of State Joselyn Benson urging her to conduct an official audit of the Nov. 3 general election results because of hundreds of sworn affidavits claiming numerous allegations of voter fraud and irregularities throughout the state.

“Every citizen deserves to have faith in the integrity of the election process and its outcome,” the lawmakers wrote. “It is our responsibility, as elected public servants, to assure the people of Michigan of the process’s integrity through complete transparency and the faithful investigation of any allegations of wrongdoing, fraud, or abuse.”

The senators cited four main reasons for the need to audit the election, including a purported software glitch with Dominion Voting Systems tabulating machines in Antrim County; multiple accounts of election officials mishandling ballots in various, egregious ways; the alleged mysterious overnight delivery of 40,000 unsecured ballots at Detroit’s TCF Center; and reports of poll challenger intimidation and interference.

These allegations are “backed up by sworn affidavits of over 100 Michigan citizens, real people, willing to face legal consequences to their lives and livelihoods to stand by their assertions,” the letter states. “These claims deserve our full attention and diligent investigation to ensure fairness and transparency in our election process.

“As such, and due directly to these issues, we are requesting a full audit be conducted of the 2020 General Election prior to the certification of any results. We must take every possible step to ensure that all Michiganders, and all Americans, have confidence that the State of Michigan conducted this election with integrity and accuracy.”

  1. There’s nothing wrong with auditing the voting process, but using a few issues here and there and calling them “shenanigans”, as Sen. Theis has done is irresponsible and seems designed to undermine faith in the election process. There is no evidence of any wide spread fraud that would overturn the results. This is why the court cases across Michigan continue to be thrown out.

  2. Are you kidding me?! Do you know how hard the volunteers work on EVERY election to make sure each and every ballot is handled correctly? How dare you call into question this election because your candidate lost. Respect the people and respect the process.
