The Detroit Public Television program about the Historic Howell Opera House won three Emmy awards.

The 30-minute show, “Taking the Stage: The Historic Howell Opera House,” was produced by Tina and Matthew Brunn and aired on Detroit Public Television last August. When nominations for the 2016 Emmy Awards were announced this week by the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Howell Opera House feature came away with a whopping six Emmy nods.

The program walked away with three Emmy awards for “Best Historic or Cultural Program or Special”; “Lighting” (Matthew Brunn); and “Photographer – Program (Non-News)” (Matthew Brunn).

Using interviews and historic photos, the program looks back at the rich history of the Historic Howell Opera House, and details all the efforts that have taken place in recent years to bring it back to life.

The winners were announced during the Emmy ceremony on June 18, 2016, in Detroit.
