The final installment of the 2019 Howell Art Project is set to wow the community on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019.

For the past five years, Howell Main Street has brought public art to downtown Howell through the Howell Art Project. The 2019 event has been bigger and better as the first-ever Art Week in May incorporated the creation of three large-scale murals on buildings, a community mural painted by residents and visitors, chalk art classes, Howell High School student crosswalk art, and an art competition.

However, the fun is not over quite yet.

The event on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, will kick off with an Art Walk & Unveiling party. Guests will gather at the Howell Opera House for delicious food and drink, while mingling and getting to know this year’s artists. Then, the fun continues as attendees walk through downtown Howell to witness the unveiling of the winning art competition pieces.

This year, the Howell Art Project Art Competition allowed more than 30 artists of all ages and skill sets to participate and have a chance to see their artwork displayed in downtown Howell.

“Our community is full of talented artists and it was extremely fun and exciting to see the wide variety of pieces that were entered into the competition this year,” said Kate Litwin, Howell Main Street Interim COO. “Through a public voting process, we were able to narrow down the top seven winners, including the People’s Choice Award winner, which will be revealed for the first time during the Art Walk!”

Tickets to the Art Walk & Unveiling Party are on sale now for $25 per person at this link. Proceeds from ticket sales support Howell Main Street and the Art Project for years to come.

The grand finale on Friday night is LuminoCity, which will take guests on an illuminated and animated photographic journey of Howell through the years. This beautiful display will be projected onto the east façade of the historic Livingston County Courthouse. The best part is that LuminoCity is FREE and open to the public for all ages to enjoy.

“We welcome the entire community to enjoy this grand finale and celebration of art and history in downtown Howell,” Litwin said. “Bring blankets, chairs, and the whole family for this one-of-a-kind experience!”

LuminoCity begins around 9 p.m., when it is dark enough for the full experience and vision to come to life.

Howell Main Street Inc. is a unique blend of business and property owners, community leaders, entrepreneurs, residents, and visitors, all personally engaged in working together to support downtown Howell. The grass roots, volunteer-led organization blends innovation and creative approaches to positively position and grow the downtown through quality events, projects, preservation, and programming.
