Howell FIRST Tech Challenge teams heading to state championship

Both Howell FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are heading to the FTC State Championship for the second year in a row. Teams KILTS and KAOS have qualified for the state event based on their performance at two qualifying competitions. The FTC State Championship will be held Dec. 14-16 in Battle Creek.

Team KILTS qualified for the state event by being part of the winning alliance at the Canton Qualifier on Nov. 4. Additionally, Team Kilts claimed the Canton Qualifier Control Award, which celebrates a team that uses sensors and software to increase the Robot’s functionality on the field.

The team came in second place at the Mason Qualifier on Nov. 11 and earned the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award which celebrates a team that thinks outside the box, and has the ingenuity and inventiveness to make their designs come to life.

Team KAOS qualified for the state event by finishing in third place and winning the Connect Award at the Mason Qualifier on Nov. 11. The Connect Award connects with their local science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) community. Team KAOS also finished in third place at the Canton Qualifier on Nov. 4.

This year’s FTC game is FIRST Relic Recovery. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by scoring Glyphs into the Cryptoboxes and completing rows, columns, and ciphers,  transferring Relics to the Recovery Zone, retrieving Jewels, parking on the Balancing Stones, and navigating to specific parts of the Playing Field.
