Livingston County is about to get some big-time national exposure.

A 9-year-old Howell boy whose love for the Michigan Marching Band has gone viral will be featured this Friday on the CBS Evening News. You’ll see it at the tail end of Friday’s newscast, as part of the heartwarming “On the Road With Steve Hartman” segment.

Henry Boyer, a student at Light of the World Academy in Pinckney, wrote a letter to the Michigan Marching Band a few weeks back, letting them know that his greatest dream in life was to one day join the band. The band’s members were touched by Henry’s letter, so they sent him a package that included some MMB swag (a t-shirt, poster, CD and other items) and a card.

Henry was so excited while reading the card that he burst into tears, and the video that his mom recorded of him on Jan. 7 reading the letter hit Facebook and then went viral. You can see the video here. (Prepare to cry.)

Henry’s video has been shared hundreds of thousands of times, as people around the world have been touched by the little boy from Livington County and the love he was shown by the Michigan Marching Band.

The media then began to pick the story up, as WDIV-TV in Detroit came out and filed this special story, and the CBS Morning Show also ran a short clip of Henry’s video.

Then came the biggest media hit of all. The producers from “On the Road With Steve Hartman” – an award-winning segment that spotlights heartwarming and touching stories around the country – contacted Henry’s mom and asked if they could come to Michigan to film Henry’s story. Hartman and his videographer spent Monday evening at Henry’s Howell home, interviewing him and his family, and then on Tuesday, they filmed Henry at his school, Light of the World Academy, a Montessori charter school in Pinckney.

We don’t want to spoil what happened next, but suffice it to say that Henry got an even bigger surprise when he went to Ann Arbor on Tuesday evening. You’ll have to watch the CBS Evening News on Friday evening to see it for yourself. If you’re a Michigan fan – or a marching band fan, or just a fan of little kids – you will absolutely love it. We promise.

The CBS Evening News airs Friday at 6:30 p.m. Henry’s segment will air toward the end of the program.
