Join the Livingston County Homeless Continuum of Care Committee (HCCC) during National Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 13-19) to learn more about homelessness in Livingston County. The “Somebodies” display – Livingston County, Nov. 14-19: During this time there will be a variety of “Somebodies” placed around Livingston County representing the homeless population and sharing their stories. If you see one of the “Somebodies” while you’re out and about, feel free to share a photo and use #HAW2016.

Student Art Show – Howell Opera House, 3-7 p.m. Nov. 17. Stop by the Howell Opera House to see student art work that depicts what homelessness means to youth in our county.

Public Speakers – Howell Opera House, 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 17: Hear the stories of several formally homeless individuals that have survived homelessness.  If you are interested in telling your story, please call Terri Ariss at (517) 231-9687.

Movie “The Blind Side” – Historic Howell Movie Theater, showings at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Attend the movie that’s based on the true life story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family. Benefits of the movie will be provided to the Homeless Continuum of Care Committee.

Did you know… 475 Livingston County students were considered homeless last school year?  The Connection Youth Services also provided safe housing to 126 homeless youth. There were 274 single adults homeless in 2015 as well.
