This holiday season the Highlander Way Middle School SPARK (Students Promoting Acceptance Respect and Kindness) club is holding a mitten drive to help those in need. The club will be accepting donations of new hats, mittens, scarves and gloves through Tuesday, Dec. 20. Donations can be dropped off at the Highlander Way Middle School main office or media center, 511 N. Highlander Way in Howell. The collected items will be donated to various local charities.

“We hope to be able to spread the SPARK of kindness towards others this holiday season,” said Carole Colburn, SPARK club advisor.  “With the weather turning colder, we thought a mitten drive would be a good way to help those in need.”

Each person who makes a donation will have their name featured on the SPARK club’s “Wall of Warmth” across from the school’s cafeteria. Highlander Way Middle School is located at 500 N. Highlander Way, Howell. Donations can be dropped off between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
