Hartland No. 3 in state: See where Livingston County’s other high school sports programs rank

Four high schools in Livingston County are rated as having some of the best sports programs in Michigan, according to data compiled by Niche.com.

At the top of the list – Hartland High School, which was rated as having the No. 3 athletic program in the entire state, trailing only No. 1 Saline and No. 2 Grosse Pointe South. Hartland’s sports program is ranked No. 24 nationally out of more than 12,000 high schools.

Also in the top 50: Brighton High School at No. 11, Howell High School at No. 39 and Pinckney High School at No. 46.

According to MLive.com, which listed the top 50 programs: The survey, compiled by Niche, ranked schools based on parent/student surveys on sports, number of sports offered at the school, boys athletic participation, expenses per student and girls athletic participation.

Niche assessed 12,814 high schools in the United States.

The parent/student surveys were heavily emphasized, accounting for 50 percent of the total grade. Number of sports offered accounted for 20 percent and the other factors accounted 10 percent each. Niche did a report for each state and compiled an overall national ranking.

The survey did not include private schools.
