Jeffrey Smrz of Gregory, training director and site manager for the Michigan Laborer’s Training and Apprenticeship Institute, has been appointed to Michigan’s Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals. Previously, he served as the abatement superintendent for API Group Inc.
Smrz received an associate’s degree in applied science from Baker College. He is reappointed to represent labor in the construction industry for a term that runs from May 2, 2024, to March 18, 2028.
The Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) cases involving safety and health citations, orders, and appeals. The Board may order testimony at hearings, compel witnesses or require depositions, and further promulgates rules of procedure for hearings, maintaining consistency with any federal occupation safety or health standard.
His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
