Governor appoints Vaupel to prescription task force

State Rep. Hank Vaupel

State Rep. Hank Vaupel, R-Fowlerville, chair of the House Health Policy Committee, has been appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to serve on the Prescription Drug Task Force within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The task force will focus on lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and consist of the directors or the directors’ designees from several state agencies, as well as bipartisan leaders from the Michigan legislature.

Vaupel said that in the past decade, the average price of common life-saving prescription medications has skyrocketed in Michigan.

“It has been my priority as chair of the House Health Policy Committee to investigate ways to reduce exorbitant drug prices that Michigan families face,” said Vaupel. “This task force is an exciting opportunity to continue to work toward that end along with others who share the same goal.”

The Task Force will complete its work and submit a final report to the governor detailing its findings and recommendations by Aug. 15, 2020.
