Golf outing benefits BHS band and choir programs

The Brighton High School Band Boosters and Brighton Choir Boosters are teaming up to sponsor the Brighton High School Music Program Golf Outing to raise funds that will help support the travel and capital equipment-related expenses of these growing music programs.

The golf outing is set for Saturday, June 3, at Whispering Pines Golf Club, 2500 Whispering Pines Drive in Pinckney. The event begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration runs from 8-8:45 a.m. Cost is $100 per golfer.

The students in both of these programs represent the Brighton community at performances around the country and across the state. The experiences help these hard-working students gain maturity and strengthen bonds with the community, as well as prepare them for college and careers in which teamwork, reliability and communication are valued.

Because the school district can’t always cover the entire travel and capital equipment expenses of these two programs, the boosters work to raise additional funds through activities and fundraisers.

“Music education is an essential part of the education of the next generation,” said Mark Burnham, incoming president of the Brighton Band Boosters. “Not only does singing and playing of music develop the mind, participating in choir and band also teaches students how to work as a team, how to be accountable, and how to share the gift of music.

“Supporting these programs doesn’t just feel good, it does good.”

In addition to golfing, you can show your support as a sponsor, or by donating an item for the event’s silent auction. Sponsorships range from $3,500 to $100, with sponsors receiving benefits outlined here.

The event is also on the hunt for silent auction donations, including themed baskets; gift certificates for goods/services; art; jewelry; sports collectibles; and items that are unique and/or interesting. In addition to a tax deductible sponsorship or silent auction contribution, the boosters will recognize donations by sharing your name and logo.
