The Gems FIRST Robotics Team (#4362) from Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy High School in Brighton took first place at the 2019 FIRST in Michigan FRC State Championship last weekend at Saginaw Valley State University. The new FRC State Champions are rated No. 1 among the 542 FIRST Robotics teams in Michigan. The Gems won the competition as part of the Blue Alliance in the Ford Division along with their alliance partners the Goon Squad (#3604) from Brownstown and Lightning Robotics (#862) from Plymouth Canton.

The next step for the Gems is the FIRST World Championship Competition at Cobo Hall in Detroit on April 24-27. The team was started in 2012. This is the sixth time they have competed at the State Championship and it will be their sixth trip to the World Championship.

Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy now houses two reigning Robotics state champions. The CSPA Middle School FIRST Tech Challenge Miners team (#8533) won the FIRST Tech Challenge Michigan State Championship in December. They will join the Gems at the World Championship later this month.

The CSPA High School Gems Robotics team is generously supported by Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy and Charyl Stockwell Academy District Parent Council, and sponsored by DTE and ASI Workholding that has allowed the team to use their shop for the past seven years. The Gems’ victory is the result of the dedication and hard work of the student team, their mentors and their parents as well as the culmination of years of building a team and a Robotics tradition at the schools in the Charyl Stockwell Academy District.
