There will be a lot more than just the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the air on Valentine’s Day at Uptown Coffeehouse in downtown Howell: Lovebirds can get married for free.
This will be the third year that Bill Fenton of Howell will be performing the ceremonies. For Fenton, a Howell Area Fire Department firefighter who became ordained eight years ago, firefighting and weddings provide a “nice balance.”
“I get to help people in the worst moments of their life,” he said, “and I get to help them in their best.”
Weddings will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019. You can make a reservation, or just walk in, and you can even get married practically on the spur of the moment.
“There’s usually a three-day waiting period for marriage licenses,” Fenton said, “but almost every clerk’s office can give you a license the same day if you pay a small fee.”
