Five county schools nab Tangerkids grants

Tanger Outlets Howell awarded five schools in Livingston County with a TangerKIDS Grant for the 2018-2019 school year. In keeping with Tanger Outlets’ mission to support the future of our children, the TangerKIDS Grants program is designed to award grant money to local schools in the communities where Tanger Outlet Centers are located.

This year’s grant recipients are:

• Northwest Elementary, Howell Schools – Ms. Tami Rossman, 4th grade
Grant to build a Junior FIRST Lego League program for grades 1-5. Students will learn to apply STEM concepts, using imagination and problem solving. They will gain critical thinking skills, team-building skills and basic STEM applications and presentation skills• Three Fires Elementary, Howell Schools – Ms. Linda Cunningham, BK – 5th

Grant to right-size a portion of the middle school furniture in the media center to better serve the current younger elementary students, creating a kid-friendly space for students to engage successfully in reading, as well as other activities

• Kreeger Elementary, Fowlerville Schools – Ms. Amy Lemke, 4th grade

Grant to purchase computers to give students a window to the world, encouraging reading, writing, problem solving and researching. Creating students who are both engaged in their community and with the country and the world

• Kreeger Elementary, Fowlerville Schools – Ms. Denise Wood, 3rd – 5th grade

Grant to fund monthly popcorn program. Students to strengthen math, social skills, team work and communication skills

• Creekside Elementary, Hartland Schools – Ms. Rebecca Carpenter, 2nd grade

Grant to purchase author Julia Cook’s series of books to build character and teach lifelong lessons to the classroom each day. Problem solving for social situations that might make children uncomfortable, unsure how to handle and sad with how their friends are treating them.

This school year’s grants will benefit schools for the 2018-2019 school year. The Tanger Management team presented checks to the schools earlier this year. The next TangerKIDS Grants program will kick off in February 2019. Teachers in K-12 classrooms are encouraged to apply.
