A protest is planned in downtown Howell on Sunday against Adam Merkel Restaurants, which owns downtown Howell’s Diamonds Steak and Seafood, the Silver Pig, and Cello Italian Restaurant; as well as restaurants in Royal Oak.
The object of the demonstration is to get AMR owner Adam Merkel to drop the defamation lawsuit he recently filed against four former employees of his Howell restaurants for criticizing him and his company on Facebook after alleging that he used intimidation tactics to get them to return to work during the pandemic; Merkel maintains that the Facebook posts caused him financial losses.

Organizers plan to gather at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Howell City Hall, 611 E. Grand River Ave., at which time signs will be distributed. At 6:30 p.m., the demonstration will proceed downtown on foot.
