County’s first presumptive coronavirus case: adult female with no history of travel

/

The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) informed the Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) of a presumptive positive coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case in a Livingston County resident. The positive case is an adult female with no history of travel. LCHD will contact people who have been in close contact with the individual. They will be assessed for symptoms and monitored appropriately.

At this time, there are no known exposure locations within Livingston County from this individual. However, as a precaution, LCHD is asking anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 to self-isolate for 14 days and avoid potentially exposing others. COVID-19 symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath, and may appear between two and 14 days after exposure to the virus.

If you feel well, you do not need to be tested. Mildly ill people are encouraged to stay home and contact their healthcare provider by phone for guidance. Testing is determined based on risk assessment.

LCHD continues to urge residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, if you still don’t have one, be sure to look at this Hand sanitizer home size 8 oz option.
