Following Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s March 23, 2020, press conference announcing her “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order (EO 2020-21), Meghan Reckling, chair of the Livingston County Republican Party, issued the following statement:

“Michiganders are looking for hope and true leadership from our governor, and quite frankly, what we witnessed … during her press conference fell short.

“Gov. Whitmer spent 30 minutes swinging a political hammer around playing the partisan blame game instead of uniting us with a message of being together in this battle, and sharing information on how the new executive order will impact our lives over the coming weeks.

“Small businesses, hardworking employees, parents of students, and those who are struggling to make ends meet are worried about how to stay afloat in these uncertain times. Currently, residents are having difficulty getting through to the unemployment agency, small businesses are losing profit and trying to keep the lights on, and teachers and parents are wondering how they’ll ensure students can continue their education. All of this, while they are concerned about their health, the health of their families, and their neighbors. The governor spent no time talking about her plan to address these issues today.

“I’m joining with families, small businesses, and taxpayers throughout our state, encouraging Gov. Whitmer to lay aside the campaign rhetoric and focus on getting the job done for Michiganders.”

  1. She condemns the governor but offers no plan herself. Sounds like she is part of the problem.

  2. Our
governor is much more honest that POTUS. I believe in our medical leaders not someone worried about the economy. Let’s not die for it.

  3. This sums up the GOP response to this crisis. Republicans can’t be trusted with our health, our economy, and our futures.

  4. I agree with Dale’s comments above. The science tells us that we need to isolate to kill this virus. There is nothing more important than protecting the people of Michigan. Business and MONEY will need to take a back seat to our individual health care needs right now. Get politics out of this.

  5. Are you kidding me? She told the truth. Plain and simple truth and frankly we all need to hear it. Governor Whitmer exemplifies being a true leader and I’m so grateful Michigan has her through this.

  6. I think this partisan Rep. leader saw a chance to take cheap shots and did it. I appreciated the Governor’s message. Stop doing what the President is sadly doing each day which is lying self aggrandizing and politicizing this crisis.
