Christmas Eve crash claims one life: updated

A single-vehicle crash in Howell Township claimed the life of a 23-year-old Howell resident on Christmas Eve.

UPDATE: The driver who died in the crash has been identified as Dylan Robert Richards.

On Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at approximately 9:01 p.m., deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to North Burkhart Road, south of Crandall Road, in Howell Township for a single-vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a 23-year-old Howell resident was driving a 2002 Ford Escape and traveling north on North Burkhart Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by Livingston County EMS. North Burkhart Road was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Speed appears to be a factor in this crash, in addition to the driver not wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff Traffic Safety Division.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
