Today — Jan. 25, 2022 — is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, a national day of action established by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to encourage people to help America vote by signing up to be a poll worker. National Poll Worker Recruitment Day is addressing the critical shortage of poll workers, strengthening our democracy, inspiring greater civic engagement and volunteerism by encouraging more people to become poll workers within their communities.Poll workers in Michigan are also known as “election inspectors.” Election inspectors are hired by a city or township clerk and must meet certain requirements prior to working an election:
1. Election inspectors must first submit an application declaring a political party;
2. Election inspectors must be registered to vote in Michigan. Michigan residents who are 16- and 17-years-old may also work as election inspectors on a limited basis; and
3. All election inspectors must receive training and certification every two years.
The Livingston County Clerk’s Office works closely with the community’s 18 city and township clerks to help recruit election inspectors. More information about election inspectors, contact information for city and township clerks within Livingston County, and the election inspector application are available at the County Clerk’s website.
