Brighton resident walking along I-96 in critical condition after being struck by car

At approximately 11:21 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian injury crash on westbound I-96 east of Fowlerville Road in Handy Township.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a 22-year-old Brighton resident was walking west in the westbound lane of I-96 when he was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 32-year-old East Lansing resident. The pedestrian was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by Livingston County EMS in critical condition. The driver of the Cobalt was not injured.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Fowlerville Fire Department, Livingston County Ambulance, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team.
