Balloonfest returning June 25-27

The 37th Annual Michigan Challenge Balloonfest takes to the skies over Howell June 25-27.

This popular family event, hosted annually by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, has been modified this year to adhere to COVID-19 orders and restrictions in place during the event planning process.

There will be four flights throughout Balloonfest weekend taking place in the Howell area and flying over Howell’s historic downtown.

The traditional gathering at the event site is being replaced this year with increased coverage including live videos and on-site pilot interviews. Live features will include video of balloon inflations, take-offs and landings, so the community can share in the ballooning experience without being onsite. The live stream viewing information will be made available on Michiganchallenge.com.

There will be 24 pilots competing in this year’s challenge, the main goal of which is to attract people to the area to shop, dine, and enjoy the sights of the balloons while supporting the local economy.

“We’ve all had to face adversities over the last 15 months,” said Janelle Best, president of the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce. “We’re hopeful this modified event will bring our community together in a positive way, and support our local merchants and restaurant establishments while enjoying the beautiful sight of hot air balloons flying over downtown Howell.”
