8th District Congressional Arts Competition underway

Entries for this year’s annual Congressional Arts Competition should be submitted by March 15, 2020. Sponsored by the Congressional Institute, this nationwide contest recognizes and encourages artistic talent across the country. The competition is open to all high school students residing in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District, and the winning artist will have his or her artwork displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Students are requested to submit their artwork by March 15. Students will need to submit their entries through a free Slideroom account, which can be set up through this link. A panel of qualified artists and community leaders from across the district will judge the artwork, and we will hold a reception and awards ceremony for the finalists in late April. Semi-finalists and finalists will have their artwork exhibited at the Howell Carnegie District Library from April 15 through May 15, and the winning student will be flown to Washington, D.C., on Southwest Airlines for a reception and award presentation at the end of June.

Review the 2020 rules and regulations or visit the Congressional Insitute for more information. If you have any questions, contact Sam Woll at U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s Lansing District Office at (517) 993-0510.
