Howell boys look to rebound vs. Novi — with broadcast link

After a loss at the buzzer on Tuesday night, the Howell boys basketball team is looking forward.

Next up is Novi, which Howell coach Nick Simon believes will present another challenge.

The Highlanders (2-3 overall, 1-2 KLAA West) are home against the Wildcats (4-3, 1-3), whose record, Simon believes, doesn’t reflect how well they have played.

“They’re incredibly well-coached,” he said. “They do a really good job of maximizin the talent they have and they throw a lot of different defenses and a lot of realy good motion offenses, too. They’ve been competitive in just about every game they’ve played this year.”

Today’s game will be broadcast on The Livingston Post at around 6:50 p.m. Click here for the link.

While Tuesday’s 46-44 loss at Hartland stung, Simon said, the Highlanders didn’t treat it any different than any other league game.

“It’s always tough in this division,” he said. “It’s always tough and rivalries are always tough.”

That said, the Highlanders look to improve as a team rather than worry about their schedule.

“We always know that we’re going to look at ourselves more than anybody else,” Simon said. “We want to continue to improve, and our goals are always postseason-based and on the division, and those goals are still in front of us.”

One key, he said, is mental.

“We have to make sure we don’t get tripped up with their multiple looks defensively, with their different presses,” Simon said. “And we have to make sure we are on point and doing things on offense very well. .. It’s going to be an incredibly competitive game, and I’m excited.”
