Steve Manor, a longtime Howell City Council member, has resigned his position for health reasons.

“Sometimes it’s hard to quit, and this has been such an occasion for me,” Manor said, “but it’s time.”
Manor said in a statement that he began in-home hospice care on Sept. 28.
“I did so because I had no more treatment options but was still able to be functional at home,” he wrote. “I have deteriorated a lot since then and am grateful for hospice.”
Saying that he really likes the visits and phone calls he receives, Manor said anyone wishing his contact information can message him on his Facebook page.
Manor, who was honored for his many years of service to the city in a special ceremony this summer, is set to lead the annual Fantasy of Lights Parade on Nov. 25 as its grand marshal.
Manor, a retired teacher, began teaching at Howell High School in 1966. He retired from teaching in 1998, and in 1999 began his second “career” as an elected member of the Howell City Council.
Since his election, Manor has been the city’s mayor pro tem; he’s served on several boards and committees; and he’s served in multiple volunteer roles. He’s dedicated countless hours to serving the community, and has been involved with the Livingston Diversity Council, Howell Rotary Club, Countryside Veterinary Dog Park, Parker Skate Park, and more. And Manor was also a Howell Citizen of the Year.
