Well, that didn’t take long.

Brenda Lilly-Plank of Brighton announced in a Facebook comment that she is running against new Democrat Gary Childs for his seat on the Livingston County Board of Commissioners after Childs left the Republican party.

Her comment came within an hour of the promo for the story about Childs’ party switch was posted on Facebook.

We’ve reached out to Lilly-Plank for further information.

Childs, who has represented the district since 2012, switched from the Republican to the Democrat party because of what he called “increasing political polarization” that has become “more and more disturbing” to him. You can read that story by clicking here.

In a comment on The Livingston Post’s Facebook page, Lilly-Plank wrote:

“I find his (Gary Child’s) reason for jumping from one party to another is weak. His vote to support taxpayer-funded abortions killed his support among many who elected him.

“After Mr. Child’s abortion support I felt it was time to give Livingston County another voice. The voters will decide who they want representing them in the 9th District.

“Vote Brenda Plank for Commissioner.”

  1. She was likely recuited by the Livingston GOP political machine (more specifically Party Boss Meghan Reckling) to run against Childs. It’s pretty gross how the GOP is now picking favorites in primary races (including my race for clerk).

The filing receipt said she filed on August 28th, one day after the abortion vote. Tells me her whole candidacy was orchestrated based on how Childs would vote that day. She already had the endorsement of Dan Wholihan, which tells me she was bringing the groceries to the backdoor long before her day of filing for office.
