Bezotte throws his support to Detmer

Sharing is caring!

The wildly controversial Mike Detmer, who burst onto Livingston County’s political scene in 2020, is adding state Rep. Bob Bezotte to his list of endorsements in his primary challenge to incumbent state Sen. Lana Theis, R-Brighton in the newly drawn 22nd state House District, right behind former President Donald Trump and Ted Nugent.

Bezotte, a former Livingston County sheriff who also served on the Livingston County Board of Commissioners, faced off in the 2020 primary against Meghan Reckling, chair of the Livingston County Republican Party and chief of staff for Theis, for the seat he now holds.

Detmer announced Bezotte’s endorsement in a Facebook post.

Detmer attracted statewide attention during his unsuccessful 2020 campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin after posing for a mask-less selfie with members of the Proud Boys at an Operation Lockdown/pro-Trump rally in Lansing just a few weeks into the pandemic lockdown.

Since then, in a Nov. 20, 2021 Facebook post, he’s advocated killing those he deemed guilty of “election fraud.” In that post, Detmer wrote that “election fraud” and “fixing” would “necessitate firing squads.”

In the Facebook post in which he announced his candidacy, Detmer foreshadowed a looming political battle: “The battle lines are being drawn folks and the long knives are out,” he wrote in the post. “For those few who are angry with what’s coming, I just want you to know…it’s not personal. But we the people politely encouraged you to do the right things. You were politely warned. You ignored us. And now, …well, you have a fight on your hands.”

That post echoes the tone of this Detmer campaign video:

What we’d really like to know is whether Detmer is once again getting his coffee at Biggby’s now that the mask mandate has been lifted. He was incensed after being refused service at the height of the COVID pandemic for not wearing a mask. (Click here to read all about that.)
